He is professor of cultural anthropology, holds the chair of ‘Islam in European Societies’ (VU Amsterdam) and chairman of the board of the Netherlands Interuniversity School for Islamic Studies (NISIS). He is co-supervisor of Zeynep Aydin (ESR 14) and coordinator of WP 8.

He is Deputy Dean for Academic affairs and Associate Professor in Islamic Civilisation Studies at the Faculty of Islamic Studies of the University of Sarajevo. He is supervisor of Robin Cognée (ESR7)

He is a postdoctoral research fellow at the German Institute of Global and Areas Studies (GIGA) of Middle East Studies in Hamburg and a PhD graduate of Philipps-University of Marburg. He is the GIGA main contact person, and coordinator of WP 4.

This sub-project aims to map and analyse this rapidly changing landscape of Islamic knowledge production and to identify the various actors involved. It also aims to explore and analyse the audiences, consumers and followers of these new centers of religious learning. What do they expect and what do these new modes of knowledge production provide in terms of outlooks, perspectives and language?

We are starting this week by presenting another entertaining video of our Early Stage Researchers.  Aleeha Zahra´s work is about digitization and how religious experiences can unfold within it.
