The aim is to analyse this knowledge transfer network from a structural and operational point of view. By doing so, we expect to find the guidelines followed during this process, and will pay particular attention to the elements that allowed a seemingly inefficient system (which did not take advantage of writing, despite the early widespread use of paper) to prevail and be seriously recognised. The prestige granted to it is a peculiar and characteristic element of Arab- Islamic culture.

We are happy to present the next exciting topic and film of our ESR Justin Benavidez. His research focusses on the history of knowledge through the writings of Muhammad al-Qurtubi, from the city of Cordoba. The writings of al-Qurtubi (d. 1273), in particular his commentary of the Qur'an, offer insight into the ways in which ideas about religious knowledge were read, shared, and integrated into mainstream Islamic thought.

Enjoy Justin's academic storytelling!
